This privacy policy explains what personal information aucklandgolfclub.co.nz collects, why we collect it, who handles it on our behalf and what rights you have. We handle personal information in line with New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020 and its information privacy principles.

The site is an information site about golf. There are no user accounts, no payments, no newsletter and no online bookings, so we collect very little personal information.

Who is responsible for your information

aucklandgolfclub.co.nz is represented by the website’s owner, who is responsible for the personal information handled through the site. Any question about this policy, or any request relating to your personal information, can be sent to us through our contact page.

What personal information we collect

Information you give us by email

If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever else you choose to write in your message. We ask you not to send sensitive personal information that is not needed to answer your enquiry.

Technical information collected automatically

When you visit the site, the servers and security services that deliver it automatically process some technical information. This typically includes:

This information is used to deliver pages to you, keep the site secure and diagnose technical faults. We do not use it to identify individual visitors or to build profiles.

What we do not collect

We do not use Google Analytics or any comparable visitor-analytics tool. We do not run advertising networks, behavioural tracking, retargeting or social media tracking pixels, and we do not operate a newsletter or mailing list.

We use Google Search Console to see how the site performs in Google Search. That tool shows us aggregated figures, such as which search terms lead people to the site and how often pages appear in results. It does not tell us who individual visitors are.

Cookies

The site uses only necessary cookies. These are the cookies set by WordPress and the LiteSpeed Cache plugin so that pages load correctly and quickly, together with security cookies that Cloudflare may set to tell genuine visitors apart from automated traffic.

We do not use cookies for statistics, advertising or profiling. Because only necessary cookies are in use, the site does not ask you to make a choice in a cookie banner.

You can read more on our cookies page.

Why we collect and use your information

We collect personal information only for a lawful purpose connected with running the site, and only as far as that purpose requires.

We do not use your information for marketing, and we do not sell, rent or trade personal information.

How long we keep your information

Sharing your information and third-party service providers

We do not sell personal information or pass it on for anyone else’s marketing. To run the site we rely on a small number of service providers that handle data on our behalf:

When one of these providers holds or processes personal information for us, we remain responsible for it under the Privacy Act 2020.

We may also disclose information where we are required to by law, for example in response to a valid request from a court or a public authority.

Information held outside New Zealand

Our service providers are located outside New Zealand, so the technical information described above is stored and processed overseas, mainly in Germany and the United States. We choose established providers that apply recognised security and data protection standards, and we expect them to protect personal information to a standard comparable to that required in New Zealand.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the site, access controls on the website’s administration area, regular software updates, and firewall and attack protection at the network level.

No method of sending or storing information online is completely secure. If a privacy breach occurs that has caused, or is likely to cause, serious harm, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and the people affected, as the Privacy Act 2020 requires.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to:

To make a request, contact us through our contact page. We may need to confirm your identity before releasing anything. We will respond as soon as reasonably practicable and no later than 20 working days after receiving your request.

You can also ask us to delete the emails you have sent us, and we will do so unless we are required by law to keep them.

Complaints to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner

If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your personal information, please contact us first so that we can try to put things right.

If you are still not satisfied, you can make a complaint to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, New Zealand’s privacy regulator. Information about how to complain is available at privacy.org.nz.

Children and young people

The site is written for a general adult audience, and a small number of articles mention betting on professional golf. Gambling content is intended only for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this policy when the way we run the site changes or when the law changes. The current version is always published on this page, with the month of the latest update shown at the top.
